Baby Love

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

We had such a fun night tonight. We met up with Daddy on the Plaza for dinner and sat outside to enjoy the nice weather. Then we walked around and did some shopping and then went to Jean’s house and hung out on her porch for a bit.

Getting ready for bed.

Maya loves to roll around and play with her feet.

Play date!

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Friday afternoon was our weekly play date. This week we met at Lindsey’s house. Here are all the babies. Maya is the one with drool all over her shirt. The twins (Faye & Evelyn) are next to her, then Liam, Eva and Keira.

Sweet babies just rolling around on the floor, hanging out.

We almost saw a Royals game…

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

So, here we are on the way to see the Royals vs. the Yankees. Pretty exciting. Except that the only person who got to see any of the game was Dustin. It started raining on our way to the game and it was pretty chilly outside. We drove around hoping for the rain to stop and Dustin ran into Wal-Mart to get some rain gear and we finally arrive at the game and its time for M to eat. M won’t eat in the car. She wants to look out the window at all the people walking by in the pouring rain looking in our car to see why a baby is in the front seat. We put her back in her seat and she cries because she’s hungry. We drop daddy off and then run to Grandma’s to see if baby will eat there. I get lost on the way, its pouring, dark, baby is screaming in the backseat and I’m lost! She ate a little when we got to Grandma’s and was starting to calm down when we got a text that daddy was cold and we should go pick him up. More crying, more driving, more being lost, I’ll save you the rest. By the time our family outing to the Royals was over I had spent over 3 hrs driving around in the rain. Not a fun night…but Nanny Katie will get us more tickets in the future and baby will actually get to get out of the car next time.

Hanging out with Cousin Griffin on Saturday. Trying to roll away from him!

Happy girl in a pretty Sunday dress. We had brunch with Uncle Lee & Kaitlin today after church and later came back to our house to hang out. Maya loved the attention and was a very good girl.

More teeth!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Maya’s 2nd bottom front tooth popped through yesterday and she’s pretty happy about it. Here she is wearing a cute outfit from Great Aunt Kathy in Michigan. Happy Birthday a couple days ago Great Aunt Kathy! Come see us this summer if you can!

Bedhead….this is her “Good morning Mommy!” face. Precious.

Maya’s been playing with her toes whenever possible. She just holds onto both feet and rolls all around, its super cute (of course).

Big girl food!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

If you’ve eaten a meal in front of Maya lately you know she’s showing all of the signs of being ready for baby food. She’ll reach for your food and drink and make you feel super guilty for not sharing. So tonight, we decided to try some yummy organic brown rice cereal. She wasn’t sure what to think at first but ended up doing pretty well and even managing to swallow some. I think she likes it! She’d rather grab the spoon and bowl and feed herself but she did let mommy do it some too.

She’s a natural!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Maya had her 1st piano lesson yesterday, and I must say it appears she’s a natural!  But how could she not be?  Its in her gene’s.  Mommy plays piano, Great-Grandma Lavona & Great-Grandma Jacobsen played the piano beautifully, Aunt Niki, Aunt Brie, and now Kate.

Its a family affair.

Look Mom!

Road trip & play date

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

“What?! Why are you looking at me mom?! So, its 5 AM and we’re up making brownies, (ok, so brownie making actually occurred somewhere around 6:30am but we were up at 5!) So what?! I’m a baby and this sort of thing happens from time to time, why are you taking ANOTHER picture?”

So that’s how this week went down. It all started on Monday when Nanny Katie, M & I headed to Wichita for work. M was hungry so we pulled over 3 times to try and nurse. But once she was out of her car seat she was too interested in checking out the rental car or looking out the window to actually eat. So she went back in her seat and we were on our way again and she’d start fussing because she was hungry, so we tried again, and once more. The girl finally ate at the hotel. She is so picky lately on where she eats! She prefers to be laying in mommy’s bed and eat and drift off to sleep. Which is great, except when she’s hungry and we’re not home and the child will not eat! Seriously, Maya. Some flexibility, please! Its not that I’m concerned if she skips a meal, both mommy and baby could skip a few and do just fine, but then she’s fussy because she’s hungry, which can make for an even longer road trip.

Later that evening I headed out for dinner with the client while Katie and her friend Megan and Maya hung out at the hotel. M still won’t take a bottle…so I get a text during dinner that she’s beside herself (woke up hungry), crying like Katie has never heard. So, what’s a mom to do? I leave in the middle of my fancy pants dinner (to be fair, I’ve already been there for 2 1/2 hrs, its not my fault we’re just starting the main course at 8:30 PM), speed to the hotel and run in my high heals down the halls of the hotel to get to my girl, who I can hear screaming from the hall. It was so sad. But, she ate, and slept pretty good most of the night, so thank God for small blessings.

So that was Monday. Tuesday I had my presentation in Wichita and that went well and we headed home in the afternoon. Maya had been pulling at her ears a lot lately so Wednesday morning I finally took her to the dr. Her ears look fine so that’s good, but they weighed her while we were there, the girl weighs 20lbs! She’s not even 6 months old! Sweet baby was 17lbs at her 4 month appt. So she’s growing like crazy and her 1st tooth popped through and the other is trying and so she’s just a fussbucket. Fussing what feels like constantly! I feel for her, but wow this is tough. The ONLY thing that worked was to take her on a walk, so guess what we’re going to be doing a lot of?!

We had a play date yesterday afternoon at our house (hence the brownie making). I look forward to these play dates so much. Its such an encouragement to hang with other mom’s with little ones at different stages and just talk. The kids are usually really good and like to watch each other and let us talk, although I’m sure those days will become a bit more challenging as they get older.

Below is Maya and her friend Liam.

Stephanie and Liam.

He’s such a cuddler!

Here are Lindsey’s girls. They’re 8 months old. Faye and Evelyn.

Party!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Last weekend we went to my friend Krista’s house for her daughter’s 1 yr b-day party. Here is M & daddy in the back yard getting ready for the pinata!

Anisa wasn’t too happy about her cake.

Here’s Anisa getting ready for the first hit. The older kids had a good time hitting the pinata but it was the daddy’s who ultimately broke it open. I think they had more fun than the kids!

Maya was very content to play with the butterfly balloon for most of the party.

Massage time

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I learned infant massage a few weeks ago, and so I’ve been trying to massage Maya each night before bed to get her relaxed and ready to drift off to dreamland. Does she look sleepy to you? I wonder if I’m doing it right…

Walnut, IA

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Guess who got M this t-shirt? That’s right, Uncle Brandon. He also got her a green one that says, “I’d rather be naked”.

Here we are eating at a truck stop just outside Walnut, IA and Uncle Brandon is keeping Maya entertained.

Brothers playing games.

Swim time. Don’t ask what Uncle Brandon was wearing for trunks….

Beauty in her Easter dress.

Great Aunt Barb holding baby girl at the funeral. She doesn’t look very happy in the pic, but she was actually very content to sit in Barb’s arms and relax for quite awhile.

Maya’s Great Grandma Jake (Wanda Olga Jacobsen) passed away last Thursday night. She was 98 years old. We were heading to Tipton on Friday and going to see her on Easter, so we were sad Maya never got to meet her. Granny Jake was something else. She had stories like no one else and she played the piano beautifully most of her life. We drove on Sunday to her home town of Walnut for the funeral on Monday and met up with the Amberson’s at a hotel in Walnut were we’ve all stayed when we’ve come to town in the past. It was great to see everyone even though it was such a sad occasion. The kids got to swim and we all had dinner together. Maya had an AWFUL night adjusting to the hotel so Dustin & I were quite tired the next day, but we are new parents and these things come with the territory. We were just blessed she did so well in the car all those hours. She sat all the way through church on Easter Sunday and sat through most of the funeral service like a little lady. We said goodbye to Granny Jake and are grateful for the time we’ve had with her over the years. Don’t worry Granny, you’ll get to meet Maya one day, believe that.
