Trip to Columbia

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

We went to Columbia, MO on Saturday to visit Uncle Lee & Auntie Kaitlin at MU.  We went to the MU vs Colorado game and watched Colorado get creamed.  Here are Kaitlin and Maya doing some tailgating before the big homecoming game.

All bundled up as the sun starts to set.

We headed back home on Sunday in time to make an appearance at the Wilshire Place Halloween party.   It was very windy and cold so we didn’t stay long.  Maya enjoyed looking at all the kids in their costumes and will have a good time on Friday I am sure.

Going down the slide at the play place.

She will not let go of those babies!  She gets so excited when she see’s them every day.  She likes to chew on their heads and carry at least one around with her a good portion of the day.

Maya’s 1 year stats

We took Maya to the doctor this morning for her 1 yr check up.  She didn’t get to sleep until about 3am last night so she was not too happy about being woken up at 8:30 to see the mean doctor!  She got 4 shots and was not very happy about them.  So far she’s doing just fine and hasn’t reacted to the shots.

Height:  30 1/2 inches (85%)

Weight:  23lbs 6 oz. (75%)

Head:  17 3/4 (45%)

Little Princess b-day party, round 2!

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

We barely had enough cake for the Saturday party so we brought in reinforcements for Sunday to accompany monkey cake #2.

Auntie Kaitlin and Maya got some good bonding time in.  Uncle Lee spent all afternoon helping us get ready for the party and he was the grill master as well.

She’s getting the hang of this gift thing!

Maya loves her new brown baby from Lee & Kait.

In ducky pj’s before bed, taking the new trike from the Amberson’s for a joy ride.

We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend for our baby girl’s parties.  Everyone was so generous and helpful.  She got to spend a lot of time with her Grandma Jacobsen and her cousins and friends. She has so many new toys to keep her occupied, she just wakes up happy looking forward to rediscovering all the cool things people gave her for her birthday.  Thanks to everyone who showed up, helped out and spent time celebrating with us, we love and appreciate you all very much!

Mama’s little monkey turns 1!

We had 2 parties for Maya this weekend.  On Saturday we invited her friends and a few neighbors.  On Sunday we had family and family friends over.

Maya wasn’t real sure what to think at first…

She quickly figured it out and demolished her little cake.  The sugar gave her such a shock she was up half the night!

Her cake was super cute and very yummy!

Maya and Sylvie love climbing the stairs together.

Monkey pj’s and a Curious George to end the day.

Maya is 1 year old!

We started out the birthday weekend on Friday night with the arrival of Grandma Jacobsen.  The Amberson’s (minus Aunt Niki who was out of town for work and greatly missed!), came over and we all had dinner.  Grandma let Maya open her gifts from her on Friday night.

She wasn’t sure what to think, but soon figured out there were lots of fun things to be discovered inside the pretty packaging.  The tiny baby dolls were her favorite, they’re the first things she looks for when she wakes up in the morning and gets ready to play.

Maya decided to crash a card game after opening her gifts.

Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

On Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch in Gardner, KS.  Here we are on the tractor ride to the pumpkin fields.

Searching for the perfect pumpkin.

This might be it!

Mama’s little corn cob!

On Saturday before the pumpkin patch we went to our neighbor’s house for Olivia’s 2 yr b-day party.  Here’s Maya during her 1st jumpy experience.

Visit to the Shatto dairy farm

Monday, October 13th, 2008

On Friday, Aunt Brie and Grandpa Ralph took us to the Shatto dairy farm.  We had a blast and got to taste all their variety’s of milks (the banana is really good!).  They just came out with ice cream, which I highly recommend.  It was so tasty.  I let Maya try a little, it was her 1st ice cream experience and she’s in love.

Aunt Brie milked a cow and the rest of us just watched.  :o )

Maya discovered pink tennis balls from Grandpere and she’s has had a lot of fun bouncing them.  Its finally been cool enough for her to sport her ISU sweats.

Playing with Aunt Brie

Who loves Truman the Mizzou tiger?  Maya does!  She loves her toy from Uncle Lee and likes to dance when the song plays.

Innocent?

Does that face look like a girl that would require 3 -4 hrs of cajoling to fall asleep last night?

She let’s us know when its time to eat!

Last night Maya could not get to sleep.  I tried rocking her for an hour, Dustin tried for 1/2 hr, I tried again, he tried again, and so it continued.  I tried laying down with her in our bed, the guest bed, rocking some more.  We tried to let her cry for a few minutes to see if she could get settled down, nothing.  So at midnight, I let her play for a little while so I could empty the dishwasher.  I turned around just for a minute and she had crawled up into the dishwasher.  Before I lectured her on how unsafe it is to play in the dishwasher, I had to take a couple shots.

Before I had Maya, I would never have guessed I would be up in the middle of the night doing dishes while she played.  I would guess that babies go to bed at a reasonable hour and if they wake up, you certainly don’t let them stay up and play.  When you’re at the end of your mommy rope, you’ll be surprised at what you’ll allow.   Dustin was trying very hard to get some work done, so when I brought Maya down and she started pushing all the buttons on her 2 favorite musical toys and yelling and clapping, I can’t blame Dustin for being a bit distracted.  Finally, after letting her play for 20 minutes or so, I rocked her one final time with success.  She did take a 3 1/2 hr nap today at the perfect time to let me work (I had a training teleconference I had to attend and no sitter), so that makes the rough night seem a little better.  I’m happy to say she’s safe and sound in her bed tonight by 10pm (yes I know this is still late, but better than last night), hopefully she’ll sleep until the morning, but I won’t be holding my breath.
