Massage time

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I learned infant massage a few weeks ago, and so I’ve been trying to massage Maya each night before bed to get her relaxed and ready to drift off to dreamland. Does she look sleepy to you? I wonder if I’m doing it right…

Walnut, IA

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Guess who got M this t-shirt? That’s right, Uncle Brandon. He also got her a green one that says, “I’d rather be naked”.

Here we are eating at a truck stop just outside Walnut, IA and Uncle Brandon is keeping Maya entertained.

Brothers playing games.

Swim time. Don’t ask what Uncle Brandon was wearing for trunks….

Beauty in her Easter dress.

Great Aunt Barb holding baby girl at the funeral. She doesn’t look very happy in the pic, but she was actually very content to sit in Barb’s arms and relax for quite awhile.

Maya’s Great Grandma Jake (Wanda Olga Jacobsen) passed away last Thursday night. She was 98 years old. We were heading to Tipton on Friday and going to see her on Easter, so we were sad Maya never got to meet her. Granny Jake was something else. She had stories like no one else and she played the piano beautifully most of her life. We drove on Sunday to her home town of Walnut for the funeral on Monday and met up with the Amberson’s at a hotel in Walnut were we’ve all stayed when we’ve come to town in the past. It was great to see everyone even though it was such a sad occasion. The kids got to swim and we all had dinner together. Maya had an AWFUL night adjusting to the hotel so Dustin & I were quite tired the next day, but we are new parents and these things come with the territory. We were just blessed she did so well in the car all those hours. She sat all the way through church on Easter Sunday and sat through most of the funeral service like a little lady. We said goodbye to Granny Jake and are grateful for the time we’ve had with her over the years. Don’t worry Granny, you’ll get to meet Maya one day, believe that.

Easter

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

We went to Tipton for Easter. Here’s baby reading her new book from the Amberson’s on the long drive. She did remarkably well in the car. She had a hard time adjusting to sleeping in a new place, but other than that everything went really well.

Baby girl got to meet Jacobsen family friend, Carol.

Grandma & Maya on Easter morning at church.

Capri’s for after church.

And what’s Easter w/o bunny cake!!! Maya really wanted some! She’s becoming very interested in food, she makes you feel guilty if you try to eat in front of her.

PJ’s

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

As many of you know, one of the greatest pleasures in my life are NEW PJ’s. Apparently I have passed on this legacy to my girl. As you can see she is very excited about her new pj’s and telling me all about them. Her belly gets to hang out and her toes are free, she loves them.

Our family friends Lisa, Courtney, Jennifer & daughter Hailey came over last week to visit little Maya. They brought several nice gifts with them, but our fav were the pj’s.

She pulled her shirt up so I’d kiss her belly.

Checking out her toes. Its pretty exciting to be FIVE MONTHS old (can you believe it?) and able to see her toes rather than having them covered up in her standard footed sleepers.

And then there’s bath time. I think someone might be too big for her tub! She soaked the kitchen and Sara. I think its time to move to the big girl bath.

St. Patty’s Day!

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

The Amberson’s came over to celebrate St. Patty’s Day with us and also Kate’s birthday.  She’ll be 7 on Friday, but we’re heading out of town to spend Easter with Grandma Jacobsen & Uncle Brandon so we celebrated her b-day early.

Maya was very interested in opening her St. Patty’s day gifts from the Amberson’s.

Almost 5 months old!

Maya’s wearing the dress Uncle Corey got for her in Mexico or Columbia, I can’t remember.

M reading her Who Loves Baby book.

Out to lunch with Grandpa to celebrate his birthday. Sitting like a good girl in her seat while Grandpa Ralph & Mommy eat lunch.

Road Trip to Counsil Bluffs, IA

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

We drove to Council Bluffs this weekend to visit family. Maya did pretty well in the car for the 3 hour drive. She was definitely ready to get out of her car seat, which we did a few times along the way, but all in all, it wasn’t too bad. She slept a large part of the way home and only pooped through one outfit (and on mommy’s lap in the Jeep). But we don’t let little things like baby poops slow us down, we’re experienced travelers now & we know Maya likes to clear her system while on the road, so we come prepared.

Grandma Jacobsen got some quality Maya time in. She stayed with us at our hotel Saturday night as well.

We spend Saturday evening out at Aunt Barb’s house.

Randy holding bebe M.

She was pretty tired from all the new faces and places, so she took a long nap with Mommy.

Here’s Daddy & Maya on Sunday morning in the hotel. They’re sitting at the desk checking their email, I’m sure Daddy has one setup for Maya already. If not, its only a matter of time. Once we all got ready we met the rest of the gang for some lunch. There was quite the turnout of people who wanted to meet Maya. It was a lot of fun, we were really glad we made the trip so Maya got to meet more of her extended family. The 3 hr. road trip was a success, so we’re going to be brave and try the 6 hr. road trip to Grandma’s for Easter. Wish us luck!

Happy Chick

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

After church today we took Maya in for her 1st Build-A-Bear experience. They are a client of daddy’s company so of course we had to support the cause. And its almost Easter so baby needed a new friend to share the holiday with. Here we are letting Maya pick out the chick or the bunny. She chose the chick, probably because of his bright color.

Then Momma had to give it a bath…

and fix his hair…

And baby girl got to meet her new friend.

By the end baby girl was tired from all the excitement & we headed out with the finished product.

Welcome home, Happy Chick!

Girls day out!

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Here’s Maya lounging in her pj’s before our Friday afternoon play date.  We had a massage therapist come in to teach us new mom’s infant massage.  The babies cooperated remarkably well & we had a great time.
